Pixar's Filipino American Academy Award® Winners Showcase Art at Pistahan

Academy Award winners Ronnie Del Carmen and Ricky Nierva take home an Oscar for Pixar Animation Studio's Up.

San Francisco, CA - The Art Pavilion this year is star-studded with 2 Oscar-winning artists from Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville. They are RONNIE DEL CARMEN and RICKY NIERVA. Ronnie was story supervisor for Academy Award®- winner "UP" and Nierva was the film's production designer. Both will do a presentation of their art and work at the Art Pavilion on Saturday August 13th from 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.. Admission is free and space is limited so come early. Ronnie and Ricky will also exhibit artwork from their personal art collection and some will be available for sale with part of the proceeds to benefit Pistahan. This is a great opportunity to acquire original art from two Oscar winners. 

 

Del Carmen joined Pixar Animation Studios in the summer of 2000 during the production of Finding Nemo as a story supervisor on the film. He did production design on the Academy Award®-nominated short film, One Man Band and story work on Oscar®-winning, Ratatouille. He also self publishes a comic book, Paper Biscuit

 

Nierva is an Annie Award®-winning artist and is currently a production designer for PIXAR where his credits include design work for MONSTERS, INC; TOY STORY 2; FINDING NEMO and UP. He is also the illustrator of the children's book "M" for Monster. When not dreaming up new character designs, he enjoys triathlons, eating ice cream and playing the ukulele.  

 

Along with Ronnie and Ricky, the Art Pavilion will again showcase an eclectic array of genres from local Filipino Bay Area Artist representing age groups from the young, the not so young and the seniors. There will be paintings and artwork portraying the theme of this year's Pistahan: Celebrating Heritage and Heroes. The Pavilion promises a variety of subjects and styles to suit everyone's taste and enjoyment.

Other participating artists are: MARLON SAGANA INGRAM whose work is a seamless fusion of raw materials, aerosol street tactics of thickly layered ideoscapes and dreamlike phantasmagoria; ROBBY LEE creates fantasy scenes and creatures; TIM GUITARTE, a portraitist who integrates the underground with the traditional approach in his portraits; PAOLO SALAZAR does public murals and private commission work; NICK MARANANG creates landscapes and portraits; LEE ABELLANA does live art and whose style is a mix of unpopular pop surrealism and urban street art and REGGIE MACABASCO paints landscapes and scenes in realistic and modernistic styles.

 

The Art Pavilion this year is once again coordinated by JUDY ROMANENKOV whose exhibits includes landscapes, scenes and portraits in realistic, impressionistic and modernistic styles.

There will be live painting demonstrations by PAOLO SALAZAR, NICK MARANANG AND LEE ABELLANA during the 2-day event.

Paintings from the artists will be available for sale with part of the proceeds to benefit Pistahan.

 

Experience the best of Filipino art, dance, music and food at the 18th Annual Pistahan Parade and Festival on Aug. 13-14 at the Yerba Buena Gardens.The two-day event is expected to draw over 60,000 people.
